Natural Hair

But if a woman nourish her hair, it is a glory to her; for her hair is given to her for a covering.
1 Corinthians 11:15 DRA

April 2011

I have been natural for six years.  I have not always taken the best care of my hair, but I am determined to do right by my curls. I have been motivated by all the wonderful blogs and sites about natural hair; I didn’t really see them around when I went natural.
It makes me so sad when I see women, especially women of color, who don’t love themselves completely.  I hear so many women saying, “I could never go natural, I don’t have good/curly hair like you,” or, “my hair is too nappy for that,” or, “this stuff needs a relaxer!” I can say that I used to be like that, until I reluctantly cut my hair off. Then all I was left with was who I really was.  All the fake mess was gone and I had to slowly learn to love me for me.
Now, I have nothing against women with relaxers.  But what I do have problem with is women who feel like God made a mistake when he gave them the hairs on their head.  Our hair is a part of who we are, a part of who God created us to be. I think it’s time for us, as women, to embrace that.
I know some people may think, “It’s not that deep; it’s just hair!” To some maybe, but for me going natural changed my life.”
Below are some hairstyles, hair recipes and personal thoughts and more focused on being natural.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions, comments or suggestions!
